Cancel/Cancelled
social media
Definition
Used by Gen Z to describe a person, company, or thing they’ve stopped supporting, often because of unethical or problematic behavior. If something or someone is “cancelled,” it means they’re being boycotted or called out—usually on social media—for actions that go against community values.
Examples
"The Kardashians were cancelled for throwing a lavish party during the pandemic."
"This company has been creating tons of waste and not doing anything about it, even though they are well aware of their environmental impact. They’re cancelled in my books."
